Day 17 - The end of the Al-Can

The Dutchies get a kick out of the fact that two towns close together are named Chicken and Tok.  I didn't get the joke.  They informed me that chickens in Holland say "Tok tok tok".  So we spent the night in Tok.
With our trailer scrubbed inside from top to bottom, we headed out towards Fairbanks.
Good roads, good scenery, and good company makes the miles fly by.
We got to Delta Junction, the end of the Alaska Highway!

It has been quite a journey and we can appreciate the hardships and the dedication of those brave men who built the road.
Fairbanks Alaska.  The northern most point of our journey.  We checked in at Eielson Air Force base and after spending a half hour at the gate while we signed in our Dutch guests, we moved on to the Fam Camp where Bill and Cathy had already procured a spot for us.  Bill had the bad luck to pick a drive thru spot that was already occupied.  There was no more drive thru's available and he ended up with a spot that was almost impossible to back into, but he got it done.  They also ended up in section of a campground full of mosquitoes that had more mosquitoes than anywhere else!
We pulled into our pull thru with no problems and set up our bug tent right away as we could tell we would need it if we wanted to do anything outside.
Our entertainment was downtown Fairbanks to a show of northern lights set to music.  It was well worth the $10. Dinner was at a Thai restaurant and I loved my sweet and sour halibut.  I believe everyone was satisfied with their choices as there were no left-overs!
I found the "Lady in the Lake".  A B-29 that was sunk in a pond on base to practice water extractions in the 50's
